I believe this to be fake news based on the Australian Chief of Army call to ban troops wearing offensive patches like pirates and skulls, etc
I will not verify UKSF troops wear these type of patches but exposing what they may be wearing or may have worn jeopardises OPSEC and PERSEC i appreciate that units have their own identities and traditions, it is great for esprit de corps. it is a shame to see so may carelessly discussing and showing what is around. i appreciate what these mean to the boys and also what they do

Nicely said BDC.
Has to be said that punisher patches are not SF specific as mentioned on here already. I saw a chap at the airport, one on a daysack, and he was an airsofter. So many out there man. Keep low and move fast Jon |

If we are to declare things like this off limits then we would need to stop all discussion of any current insignia. SF are not a special case (pun intended). The fact that this badge has been discussed in the national press means it's open public knowledge.
In fact the photographs of an alleged SAS soldier in action in Kenya showing a punisher badge in wear may or may not be relevant. |

Conversation between me and a "JLO" soldier in Sarajevo. Both in C95 but only one of us had a beret on and a sensible haircut.
Me "So why are you not wearing a hat or badges?" Him. "So no one knows who we are" Me " Well why don't you wear an RLC beret and badge and then no-one will care who you are." |

Motto v Punisher
I stand to be corrected but isn't the Motto worn in memoriam of Wolfe - not to satisfy the wearer's desire to advertise that they've killed someone?

By the 17th LD and successor units, (not as a "punisher badge obviously)".

Obviously indeed. The alleged issue is the meaning of the badge.

Hi friends
Punisher patch is nothing more than a "moral" patch. It is unauthorized and worn by any one, has no SF only connotation. There might of been specific usage of the design with SOF units that used it, but by in large the design is merely a sentiment, looks cool with a meaning-typical American sentiment. With the NATO/ISAF units being deployed its one of many designs that have been made and reproduced in Afghanistan and still used by troops today albeit unauthorized with local approval only (depending on nations rules and regulations). Sometimes you will see the odd image of SF/SOF units wearing them in the field or garrison duty. You will also see them on shirts , bags, backpacks, civilian jackets all Velcro for easy removal by Veterans. One of the early users were ANA Commando's. If I can find the info I will post it. As for sensitivity, I have a few US SOF/SF Team patches, I do not show them on any forum, others do, not because of sensitivity but I don't want them reproduced by several known sellers on ebay, in the end they will be, I can't stop that. Unfortunately there are ebay sellers who have contacts in Afghanistan that will have replica's made once they see a design and then its all hell in a hand bag. As for OPSEC & PERSEC on the US side, you will not find any official info on any teams, unless they come via official military publications in the form of declassified studies on individual battles and local strategies. They get vetted. Info does however turn up from unexpected sources ie social media. Here is an image from a friend who was at (amongst many deployments Iraq Afg)Camp Bastion (Barber shop) 2006. Note some designs are replicated with nations flags and colours. I have posted unknown designs on here mainly i the to be ID section and we really do not know of the design or its meaning. Phill |

I wear a lumi “punisher” tabbing marker on the back of my helmet, not only SF used as emphasised. There will always be “unofficial/unauthorised” patches worn, sometimes endorsed by higher up.
