Bending of crown-tip on WAAF [RAF] cap badges?
A friend of a friend has posted this on FB so I said I'd look into it:
"My mothers cap badge has the very tip of the crown bent back, she told me there was some kind of story/ritual about this and I can not remember what it was." " Mum served in Coastal Command end of the WW II [as a WAAF]" It's not something I've heard, and I'm not convinced that there hasn't been a misunderstanding down the years, but a promise is a promise. Any ideas anyone? Graham

Not one I've heard in 30 years of RAF collecting, although I've found a number of cap badges with bent tips.

I have also seen many badges with bent or snapped off crown tips, both Kings & Queens Crowns in 'Brass' & 'Anodised', and have never heard of any reason other than they get bent all by themselves!
