I hate you, Mike! Please bring them to the next CMHS meeting so I can at least drool over them. (And don't be surprised if you're being followed on your rounds from now on )

Default 1st Garrison Battalion

Didn't Bosleys sell something similar for over £800 a year ago (Lot 1 in 20 Jan 10 Postal Auction)?

Highest price I know of is $3500 for the cap badge, and the collar alone goes upwards of $700. Not bad for a garage sale find I'd say.

She actually sold it for $3500 at the last Easter gun show in Calgary. Was listed for the longest time at $4500. Jeffrey Hoare Auctions sold one 3-4 years ago for $3800, and one sold on eBay June 09 for about $1100.

What is the difference between the First Garrison Battalion and the Canadian Garrison Regiment?

Garrison Battalion (per Mike's badge) is from WWII and was a very small, local defence force which primarily guarded various works in Ontario (power plants, etc.). The Garrison Regiment was a much larger WWI force which did much the same in that war as the Veteran's Guards did later, in WWII: prisoner of war camp guards, various defence duties, and even garrison policing.

From a scarcity standpoint, WWI Garrison Regiment badges are quite common, while the Garrison Bttn. WWII badges are extremely rare.

Hi Mike, The Canadian Garrison Regiment was a First World War unit, drawn from the militia, to garrison the Halifax, Esquimalt, and Quebec City fortifications. The Garrison Battalions were a Second World War creation, raised for protective duties of vulnerable points, in particular the Welland Canal, and hydro installations. The Garrison Regiment had a couple of different cap badges, while the Garrison Battalion had an officers and other ranks pattern. Both were war raised units, and the Garrison Regiment was disbanded at the end of the FWW, while the Garrison Bn was disbanded in 1943.
QSA Mike , there are more than 6 examples of the officers' Garrison Regiment badge in existance. A limited number for sure, but more than 6.
Opps, this was in prep while David was posting.
