Default Black Watch

When I bought this I thought a small size glengarry badge worn on a cap!
However on closer inspection its a sweetheart brooch, not only that he wears an armpatch with the numeral 19 which denotes Training Reserve Brigade HLI
numbers issued post 1916.

The cloth shoulder numeral does imply the 19th Reserve Bde, but neither the Black Watch nor H.L.I. were not part of this Bde, which was made up from the 32nd(Res)Bn,Northumberland Fusiliers, 14th(Res)Bn,Yorkshire Regt, 11th(Res)Bn,Lincolnshire Regt and 12th(Res)Bn,Leicestershire Regt.

On the formation of the Training Reserve these went onto form the 80th,81st,82nd & 83rd Training Reserve Bns, absorbing the 28th(Res)Bn,N.F., 19th(Res)Bn,Notts & Derbys and 13th(Res)Bn,K.O.Y.L.I..

I suspect he was formally H.L.I. transferred into one of the above mentioned units and so has shown his former unit upon his 'new' GS cap.

Sometime ago I posted the attached link with a photo regarding the 20th Reserve Bde;

Graham, thanks for that information.
The 19th (Reserve) Bn HLI, were at Ripon from Oct 1915 to March 1916.
The postcard is a Harrowgate photographer. Converted to 78th Training Reserve Battalion in 18th Reserve Brigade at Montrose September 1916.
Ron.
