Colonel Bevington's Funeral, Bermondsey
Can anyone shed any light on who the Colonel was or which regiment or Corps provided the bearer party?
The ink caption on the Post Card style back says 'Funeral of Colonel Bevington leaving Old Bermondsey church' The photographer is named as F Henschel & Co Ltd, 95 Old Kent Road, SE. The only other visible detail is the Watney Combe Reid name on the pub over the road. I will be offering this photo on ebay at a later date but would be happy to sell to a Forum member before hand. PM me if interested. Jon |

A drill hall was built next to Bevington's Neckinger Leather Mills factory at 2 Old Jamaica Road Bermondsey used by the TA 6th Bn Queen's Royal Regiment and antecedants. Later (c 1974) it became the base for the Royal Marines Reserves City of London until around 2010. It has since been demolished and new apartments are being built on the site. A war memorial to 22 LONDONS (WW1) and 6 QUEEN'S (WW2) was removed and will be reinstated when works are completed.
