Default 1st ever Live Auction

I can see how easy it is to come a cropper at these auctions, "Top Row all I could see" only had a picture to go by and took a chance the Black Watch was possibly Silver - it isn't but is black!

"Bottom Row a delight to find Irish Badges! Are they real???" Munsters soldered in replacement lugs?, 97th Earl of Ulsters, looks nice Gilding to front but some rough edges to where pierced? Royal Irish Rifles, looks a nice strike (I so do want these all to be good!), the Inniskilling looks good slider has seen some use! If these are duff or anyone has concerns please speak up my judgement is clouded on wanting them to be good!

The last three because of these I have concerns on them all! Manchesters too bright and the slider, Lincolnshire Rgt lugs and feet and colour of scroll, P.W.O. Hussars I just think this badge exists as restrikes, colour? Front is darkish brass but rear is blackish looks like soot, not flimsy though and nice lugs? Appreciate your views on this in fact all of these, many thanks Billy

Hi Billy,

I don't like the sliders on Manchester's and lack of detail to the rear stamping etc but Worcs valise badge I have seen before with that type of fitting so probably ok. The Lincs has footed lugs on the tabs which look wrong but ok on face of Sphinx so could be ok. I am no expert but some of the others look dodgy sorry as KOYLI smasher looks recently made?

Cheers Dean

The KOYLI smasher hat looks fine to me. The quality of badges from that era is always very good.

A smasher hat is another name for the forage cap, I believe, Billy.
