Help needed with some cast metal figures please
On my travels have picked up a couple of little cast metal toys, less than pocket money prices, just because they caught my eye, does anyone know anything about these sort of things? Assuming how rough and ready they are they are home cast, wondering on a vague idea of age, but not sure how possible it is to put a date to them. Any help gratefully received.

I believe they are what is called 'flats', tin-based and cast in slate molds in Germany primarily. They were pre-WW2, but the style probably dates back into the 19th Century at least, possibly earlier.

I have a few, mainly of Imperial German soldiers.
The originals were easy to reproduce and were, a lot of them of poor quality. I'm guessing your cannon is a home cast from an original. Not saying it's fake as such, just that kids, collectors would happily make them over the decades to fill gaps in toy soldier play armies or in collections. "Prinz August" probably still sell flats moulds for home casting. A quick Google search: https://shop.princeaugust.ie/pa3120-...e1543344284028 Last edited by leigh kitchen; 27-11-18 at 06:46 PM. |

Thank you both, I will do a bit of googling. I like them, I shall continue to pick them up when I see them, the home spuniness of them appeals to me.
Leigh I don't think I should be near any kind of hot metal, it won't go well🙄 |
