Default Black Watch for peer review

I've added some BW badges to the database.

Any opinions or corrections? I'm looking at the first badge and wondering if it could possibly be Canadian?

Not 'Finding Nemo'? - The last (no. 5 copy) nemo vs memo was pointed out to me by a forum member many years ago!

Superb Mike, very interesting info re those type of loops that I always thought were WW2 but clearly not.

The Nemo v Memo is also a great tip to watch out for.

Your photography is as ever fantastic.

regards

Cool Memo

I have never seen a "MEMO" Black Watch, thanks for the information.

Great work Mike.

What makes you think the first badge is Canadian? My understanding is that even the brass BW’s attributed to the Canadian BW were made in the UK. Gaunt would be my prime suspect but I’m sure Ron will know.

Just low confidence from me not feeling 100% on the various Canadian issues. Ron has commented on the page so it is ok as a uk badge. I wonder what company made it? it is very nicely detailed.

Anyway, on the Nemo - Memo subject , I listed this bi-metal one on ebay (some years ago) as an assumed copy - but some must have thought it ok as it went for full price. Note the other similarities to the one I've marked as a copy on the 'database' page.

As you say they’re lovely quality, no doubt British and made by one of the big manufacturers.

A while ago on eBay I bid (and lost) on a nice BW of this pattern with a Gaunt plaque on the reverse. Really wish I’d saved the pictures as it would’ve been good to compare it with this one. Sadly the listing was over 90 days ago so pictures are long gone.

I can confirm your BM ‘memo’ BM badge is a fake. Made by another of the ‘big manufacturers’ but of fake badges. No. 201 in the Martin Marsh catalogue. BI is his code for bimetal.
