Default Is this Royal Highland Fusiliers?

Gents, something a little different. I found this recently on a stall selling modern kit (webbing, clothing) in the 50p odds and sods bin. Its a small piece of MacKenzie tartan 4.5cm square and is cut as per the large piece used as a backing by the Royal Highland Fusiliers - now 2 SCOTS. It can't be seen on the photo, but it has been stitched onto something all around the edge, the needle holes can be seen up close. In the same box, was indeed a RHF anodised cap badge . . .

I believe it MAY have been used by either RHF or 2 SCOTS on the desert floppy hat or helmet cover. Can anyone confirm this at all?

Many thanks in advance chaps.

Bess

A lovely piece for sure. Could it be a formation badge sewn to the shoulder of the tunic?

An early RHF TRF made from kilt tartan and used before this merrowed edge version was manufactured.

In the 80s my ACF unit, KOSB, wore a small square of Leslie tartan as an arm badge on a brassard in shirt sleeve order. The Cameronians ACF did this too.

Just an idea??

Bill

Thank you gents.

I reckon its an early cloth arm badge as per Tim.

Happy with that!

Thanks all

Bess

It was also worn on the RHF Tam-o-shanter throughout the 1970s-80s.

Thanks Tony - I have that backing on a badge, but this piece is much smaller (4.5cm square) - more likely an early arm badge or a piece sewn on to the desert hat or helmet cover.
