RNR 'T'
Good evening,
I know this man is Royal Naval Reserve, but what does the 'T' mean under RNR on his right sleeve? I think the three blade prop indicates chief mechanic? What would his rank be? Billyh |

The badge is of Engineman, RNR, Trawler Section.

Going by his fore and aft rig, and cap insignia he appears to be rated as petty officer equivalent, but engineman specialist. Quite a number of such RNR men came from the trawler fleets of Brixham and Whitby, etc.

Thank you,
Re the Trawler section. Where they responsible for off shore patrol? maybe mine sweeping? Billyh |

Yes, it was considered that trawlermen were ideal for inshore mine sweeping. They took some heavy casualties and there are memorials to them, even if just simple plaques, in several fishing ports.
