Royal Sussex Regt. Cinque Ports badge
Hello,
Can I have Your opinion about this badge. Is it officer collar badge or sweetheart brooch? It was found by my friend while metal detecting in West Wales. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Hordeum |

Hi Hordeum,
Judging from the size and scale, I'd say it's a sweetheart badge that is missing a vertical brooch fitting to the rear. I've not seen one marked 'STERLING' before, but that worries me less than if it were on a cap or collar badge. I hope this helps. Kind Regards, Pete |

Interestingly 'they' had a corps of drums until very recently. They wore the CP badge in a blue slouch hat, wonder if its anything to do with that ?

I don't believe that the corps of drums actually had or has anything to do with the 1st CP RVC/ 5th (CP) Bn or the military, other than the fact it may contain ex-service personnel. I understand they would obtain cap badges in the same way a collector might. Photos online indicate silver and enamel badges being worn, which are an entirely different construction, size and shape to that shown in the OP.
As a point of fact, the Battalion's heritage was continued through 5 Pl., B (Royal Sussex) Company, 3 PWRR. KR, Pete. |
