Default Silver War Badges: For Services Rendered

Does any one know if the Great War Silver War Badges are now being faked? The original ones were made of non hall marked silver and were always issued with an impressed number.

I bought one this morning at a very reasonable price thinking that the original number had been erased. On getting home and looking at it carefully what I thought to be signs of erasure actually appear slightly proud of the back and may be evidence that the badge is a cast copy from an original badge.

What do readers think?

Just another way for fraudsters making money in "profit at any price" mentality. They do it with everything else and nothing ever happens to them, so why not....

Bugger, that is bad news. It is the first wrong one that I have seen and aggravated by the fact that I got up very early this morning and travelled in the dark to a car boot sale about 15 miles from home. Nothing else on offer.
