Jerry
best thing to do is:- 1. Scan the drawing and save to folder. 2. open in CS2 and then use the "paint brush" tool to paint over any smudges or blob marks etc... 2a. Use the "AutoTone" function in the Image options. 3. Use the "burn" tool to go over the pencil lines so that they are all uniformly black. 4. once your happy with it...save the file. There are many ways of doing the same thing in CS2 and it all depends on your skill levels

Jerry, I would really look for a copy of The Idiots Guide to Photoshop. Even if you don't have the 5.0 mentioned on the cover, it hasn't really changed as regards the use of the tools etc.
It will make you experience in doing it the right way more enjoyable. I recommend it to everyone who asks me how to use PS etc. It will tell you pretty much as I explained above. The other thing is if you intend to trace photographs in the future, I would recommend a drawing tablet. Lot better than using a mouse in the standard way. Regards Simon. |

Thanks again Simon, I will look into getting the guide. As you mention, the drawing table & pen is what the professionals use, so maybe I'll look into getting one of them as well.

Thanks for the freebie Fougasse. I'm a CS3 user (I don't like change) but I preferred CS2 for its simplicity. I'm a simple kind of guy.

InDesign program
Hi All,
I'm following this thread with interest as I have recently downloaded the InDesign CS5 program. (I already have Photoshop.) My aim is to make a book of family photos to accompany my family history. I would be grateful for advice on how to start this project. Is there an Idiot's Guide or similar? Thanks, Tinto |

Hi Jerry, I believe there is an article in the current "World Archaeology" about totally digitalising dig records with 3D cameras. In fact a large part of the current issue is devoted to new technology and how it affects achaeology, Mike

Thanks for the tip, Hussar100, if all else fails I'll have a look at Powerpoint.

What I like about Powerpoint is the simplicity and ease of use. Plus it's a windows friendly program.

I realise this is an old thread but is this still available as a (computer safe!) free download anywhere?.

Just two queries things, do you know if the free software includes InDesign and is 'techspot' a trustworthy website, i.e no spyware e.t.c? Andy |
