Suffolk Regt tobacco tin
I have my Grandfather's Suffolk Regt tobacco tin, apart from the fact that my Grandfather never served in the Great War due to being partially sighted and lived all his life in Essex it is a bit of a mystery why he had the tin with the Suffolk badge stamped on it.
The badge is the two turret castle with a King's crown and the numerals XII below the scroll, this has been the subject of several threads which is why I have shown it. Rob |

Suffolk Tobacco tin
I would imagine these were made commercially by some company or other and they probably made tins with other Regimental devices as well, although I would be interested to see if anyone else has similar tobacco tins.
My Grandfather died I think in 1921 at the age of 45, so I think he would have been too old for military service apart from being partially sighted, as he lived in Essex the possibility of a VTC unit had crossed my mind although I have never heard of him being in anything like that from my older relatives. Probably a gift from someone, although I think at the time other family members were in the Navy and Marines and none in the Suffolk Regt. Rob |
