Default Essex Scottish Badges.

A pair of recently acquired Essex Scottish pieces. A gilt washed brass badge as well as a silver badge.. the silver piece looks and feels to be made of silver but cannot say for sure at this moment. Both have makers marks to the reverse but tough to make out. Any thoughts will be welcome

The individual who originally had these badges was from Illinois and receiving invites to the reunion in 1982....

Default SX Badges .

Where is the location of the makers mark on the back ?
We have one of the badges here and have not been able to find the makers mark , even with a magnifying glass . Would be interesting to locate that .
Nice to find those paper documents for regimental events , paper always gets lost over the years .
I had an uncle who was SX Scottish in WW2 , well after Dieppe .
Large number of Americans enlisted in The Regiment during initial stages of recruitment in WW2 .
Cheers .

Makers marks look ot be at the upper part of the shield. At least that's how it looks to me.

I think both are Scully made badges, made in Montreal. As far as I know, this regiment has white metal ORs badges, silver-plate for the pipe band and gilt or gold plated for the officers.

Cheers,

Greg

Hello Fellas.... late to the conversation. Yes the mark is at the top of the shield as shown by Mike.. It is faint on both badges. Thanks for the replies.

Default Essex Scottish Badges

Good Morning . Is it known of other makers for the Essex Scottish badges ?
I just checked the one I have here and I'm not finding any makers mark ." What's that sinking feeling I'm experiencing just now ?"
I checked The Bondy Repro List , didn't see it listed there .

RODEN is also a known maker. Officers badges may have been also made by Ludlow.

Also found this on an auction site :

"A white metal glengarry cap badge to the Essex Scottish with makers name 'BIRKS' to the reverse, 7 by 5cms (2.75 by 2ins)."

Here are 2 badges we have. Could not locate any makers mark on either so I'm wondering if Roden placed their mark on their badges .

Middlesex1957, the badges you imaged appear to be good, but more can be determined with an image of the reverse. It should be noted that not all badges are maker marked. The Essex Scottish did have an economy brass badge made during the war, and it is suggested the brass badge was also the base metal for the gilt badge. (Gilting affixes better to brass.) On the down side, a know and convicted badge fraudster, under the name of Croft Militaria and several alias on ebay did make brass copies of the Essex Scottish badge.

Default Essex Scottish Badges

Bill, could you elaborate a bit more on Croft . When were "they" concocting their repro bages , are there any distinguishing faults that can be identified so as to steer clear of these ?
Always helpful to be well-informed .
We'll attempt a back photo of these badges.
Thanks.
