Interested in this as a distant relative was a cadet and later died at High Wood with 1st Cameronians. When did the badge you show go out of use? I thought the large OTC shield type badge was in use before The Great War? Regards, Paul.

Dollar Academy became an OTC in Sep 08 so I would expect this badge to be replaced in 1909. |

So they wore a Tam o' Shanter before it was introduced to the army in 1915?

The 7th VB also became a TF Bn in 1908 so VB badges were alao replaced from that year. However this is not to say that the old badge did not remain in use. The 1911 Army List shows the OTC as belonging to Dollar Institution. Last edited by Alan O; 24-05-17 at 07:37 AM. |

Westlake ST book states Dollar Academy, Formed as Dollar Institution, redesignated in 1921. I wonder if he meant the ST or the school. If school then the large shield D A badge might be post 1921. Regards, Paul.

Words Academy and Institution both used in mid war editions of the school magazine. This one includes a picture of my relative Robert Macleod Laing. Regards, Paul. Last edited by wardog; 24-05-17 at 03:14 AM. |
