Plymouth Battalion Royal Naval Division cap badge?
Hello everyone,
I wonder if you could help me please? Did the Plymouth Battalion RND have a specific cap badge at the time of Gallipoli, or did they simply wear the standard RND cap badge please? Did they wear any other identifying insignia unique to the Battalion? Many thanks TB. |

Plymouth Battalion RND
I am not quite sure what you mean by Plymouth Battalion RND, certainly RND Btns wore their own cap tallies as well as the "Royal Naval Division" tally, "RND" was also worn, but at the time of the Gallipoli campaign no cap badges in metal were issued.
These metal cap badges came into being in 1916 when Hood, Anson, Hawke, Drake, Nelson and Howe were issued when the 63rd Division served on the Western Front. The Collingwood and Benbow Btns were absorbed into the remaining six Btns owing to severe casualties at Gallipoli and never had metal cap badges. I hope this helps. Possibly Plymouth Division RMLI rather than Plymouth Division RND?
