I wonder how many badges just had a scroll accidentally snapped off and the other then taken off to avoid the odd looking lack of symmetry of having just the one.

A badge I picked up some years ago, albeit the post WW1 pattern. I have a small collection of apparently deliberately adulterated badges and kept it as it appeared to be very neatly (ie 'deliberately') done.

Did any of the Glamorgan Yeomanry various line units get wrapped up in that Alan, I was thinking along similar lines earlier, but more in relation to Lloyd George’s putative Welsh, Army Corps.

No problem Alan, your general gist was clear and in the absence of further information it seems at the very least a logical theory. I also rather liked the comment about German words being removed, which also carries some sound argument given the removal of Germanic eagles from some regiments. I’ve always thought it quite ironic that the premier emblem for Wales is one that has nothing to do with the nation itself as opposed to and in comparison with, say a Red Dragon.
