Here is the one on the left mounted on a Canadian made Logistik maroon beret

1. There is nothing wrong with the cap badge on the left, but they are very common.
2. Unless I am mistaken, Logistic Unicorp didn't supply clothing to the CF until after the Canadian Airborne Regiment was disbanded. That would make it inaccurate to have the Canadian Airborne cap badge on this particular beret. Phil

Interesting beret. Usually Cdn kit has a date of manufacture on it. As Phil says, there is some inconsistency with the badge being on the beret.

It is also mounted much to high, should be closer to the sweatband, 1/4 to 1/2 inch above.

The badges are good, there are some copies out there of the airborne cap badge, but they are usually very heavy and dont look right. A fellow back in the day had some made and had OSONS (SSF moto) stamped on the back.
I believe the badge on the left is the early version, as the badge on the right has the type of slider (with the tab) for later cap badges. |

The earliest CAR cap badge was in brass and white metal. Later badges were the CF "staybrite". Coated so that they did not need polishing. The badge on the left looks too shiny to be the first issue.

The badge on the right of the image is interesting. I may be having a moment, but I don't recall seeing a solid backed CAR badge previously. As Mike says the ball slider is later issue, dating to sometime in the late 70's or early 80's. At that time NDHQ started to require mm and dates on the badges. They are often stamped on the slider.

Bill is right. I am wondering if the badge on the right is a more recent production from Joe Drouin, made for the association.
I have a flat-backed badge with screw posts. I bought it from The Canadian Airborne Regiment Kit Shop about 1989-90 and I believe these were made for the belt buckles. Phil

unfortunatly when the on the left arrived it was rather durty so I cleaned it but it had been cleaned previously as there was polish residue on the back
