Default ISC Cap Badge Identification Request

Gentlemen, I posted this photo some weeks ago on "The Royal Canadian Regiment - Collector's Collective" Facebook Group. The image in question is of the Infantry School Corps in 1884. Looking at some members of the band I can identify the same men in another ISC band picture where the glengarry badge is visible, but the badges in the photo posted remain a mystery. It does appear to be some sort of star patterned badge and I believe a scroll is beneath it, similar to the embroidered Officer's forage cap badges of the same unit.

Although some members on the FB group thought it may have been the brass ISC star I do not see similarities in the outline. Mike Reintjes offered that it may be a Victorian era musicians band but it still remains to be confirmed.

Any thoughts and opinions are welcomed and appreciated.
