BRITISH LEGION 1928 BATTLEFIELD RELIC
Saw this helmet posted at 09.20 this morning , opening bid was £0.99 , less than 2 hours later bids had reached £260.00 and there is still just over 9 days to run !

I think that whilst the helmets are original the over painting of helmets in this fashion is a much more recent thing. I cannot seriously imagine a British veteran on a pilgrimage having such an item.
I have seen relics brought back from battlefield pilgrimages in the in the Imperial War Museum that whilst neatly labelled as to where and when found and who by, are never over painted. I think that this particular helmet has been enhanced. The fact that two turn up at the same time would seem to confirm this theory. |
