This is one I picked up about month ago from a UVF collector in Belfast. He has the same pattern in brass and WM with both slider and loops. This one belonged to a elderly man who had recently died. I couldn't attach the picture last night as I've only learned how to do it. Alan

Hi All

Just to add to this and to prompt debate..... there is a fake/repro to one variant. I have also shown two maker variants.

Note the fake/repro hand and how little definition is in it... and they also appear to be polished (but they all do).

Well, I am in two minds now Griff. the one you post as a good one, is to me exactly the same as the first one I posted. But I think on this I will keep it for now.

Cheers

Simon.

Simon

Consider below

The White metal and brass metal, note the "wrist". These two would be spot on I think... and both from the same maker I would wager.

Yes, I see what you mean. I would say also my wrist is the same, but the stem on my badge (first post) being thicker.

Simon

The badge you show in the first post has no wrist, it is different to the above.

The badge you have shown is this one (below).... That i also think is good.

Thanks Griff. I'm getting confused with all these slight differences. I'm going to photograph mine better over the weekend and put into the album.

Cheers

Simon.

Simon

Here you go...

Brass Metal and your white metal (Lambourne - see link) ... side by side..... identical by the looks

The brass metal (like the one shown) is for sale on a well known Badge sellers website for £160 See also http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/mak...lambourne3.htm

So I can now assume more than one die existed, hence the slight differences?

Was the officer's collar badge the same size and design as the cap badge? PY.

The only version of this badge I would risk good money on is the narrow crown base version in white metal. I don't think we have seen a similar one in GM on the forum. The one in post 10 or the one on the IWM site are the versions to look for. I don't think I've seen any of the British Army Irish regiment collectors on here give a thumbs up to anyhing else. Hard to say if the right one in post 20 is wm or gm. Regards, Paul.
Griff- I think you are talking about a badge on a respected dealers site- Well- he has had it there a while now-and I think there is more than the price that is causing it to stay there. Also the Lambourne mark on the badge on the forum is what is regarded as the duff Lambourne mark. I would not buy a badge with that mark.

Agree with all that's been said, having received the badge it is very clear that it is a very good fake/repro... see below. Sorry Simon.... they are duffs..... the crimp marks in the white metals look like they have been hammered in looking at them again

Bosleys one appears very similiar with matching shamrock veins. The problem with these badges is that they have been faked for decades so there are more than one fake designs.

Is this the wide base crown one that I have been led to believe isn't of the period.
