Thanks (his dates of service are a little too early when compared to the date of the beret, although the dating of that is imprecise.)

Seven examples of brass ORs glengarry badges worn by both 42nd & 73rd CEF Battalions. I include them on this thread as they are often described as BW economy issue. All badges were sourced by myself from Canada. So far I have identified four possibly five different dies.
Top row L to R. Die A Browing finish, 20 gauge 17.62gm. ET spelling.
Die B Browning finish, 16 gauge 25.50gm. ET spelling.
Although very similar there are clear differences between the Sphinx styles.

Middle row L to R. Die C Brass, 20 gauge 17.50gm. ET spelling.
Die C Brass, 20 gauge 17.45gm. ET spelling.
Die C Brass, 18 gauge 16.30gm. ET spelling cut point of star.
Die C is easily distinguished by the top left hand scroll which is set 5 degrees from the horisontal.

Bottom row L to R. Die D Brass 18 gauge 16.36gm. IT spelling.
Die ? Brass 16 gauge 20.14gm. ET spelling.
This last badge is identical to die C examples but has an extra 2mm in height. This badge has been silver plated and polished off, the reverse remains silvered. Also it is the only badge to have typically Canadian flat style lugs.

Leigh, that certainly is interesting I woundn't have thought that the ordinary Jock would be bothered by the correct spelling.

Here is another oddity, this did not come from Canada but from Trevor Shaws collection.
It does not match the Canadian patterns or any WM patterns I have. It still retains 30% of manufactures lustre I have tried to show this in the pic but you really need to have it in hand. If you look at the last 5 letters of Lacessit you will see a bar beneath attaching them to the inner wall of the annulus. This is where the thin wall section has broken down and the die-maker has machined the area to tidy it up.

Pipe Major Clark's plaid brooch.
A four inch diameter quoit in unmarked silver mounted with a cast and chased thistle wreath, mounted upon the wreath a finely detailed St. Andrew.
