Thanks Tim - the plot thickens, on loops or screw posts?

Cheers Dean

Longer lugs will certainly go through a music case (band pouch). Can you show a side view of the loops Dean?

K/c, W/m 2X 5mm screw posts, E&W.

All these i believe to be Band Pouch or Card Badges.

Check out Royal Marines band pouch badge which have short lugs to rear, Tim

Yes if the loops compare favourably in length to those of the Royal Marines then the argument against a music case badge is rendered null and void. Currently I think that the RM are the last band still wearing such pouches as routine. The Foot Guards never did for some reason and I haven't seen them worn by line for decades.

NB. Interestingly the subject badge's origins (as a design) lay entirely with the 1st Devon Militia and not with the 11th (North Devonshire) Regiment.

That's confirmation that it is most likely a music case with loop type fixture. The base of the loop has an extension to increase the length to fit through the buff leather. You can see this in the enclosed image of a RM equivalent. It's a particularly nice example of a type of Army insignia that hasn't yet been properly studied in any commercially accessible published work. See also the Essex Regiment example and the dimensions of its two loops.

Thanks to Tim for all of the extremely useful input.

Happy to have confirmation that it is a band pouch/card badge with loops.

Thanks to all who have richly contributed.

Best regards Dean
