Default Any ideas 'ON NATIONAL SERVICE' badges

I assume this pair of badges must relate to a firm during WW1/2 , any ideas ? Both are made by Fattorini. Thanks.

These badges do turn up from time to time, generally issued I think to workers in industry, all numbered probably for security purposes.

Possibly an allusion to The Blitz?

I am just of a mind that the Phoenix symbol relates to a particular firm .... but which ? I cant believe it is a generic thing or I am sure I would have seen more of them .

Default Phoenix

I think somewhere in the distant past I have seen this logo on either petrol, oil or chemicals tins.

I do not think Insurance was classed as war work?

There is a company called Phoenix Oil and Gas Limited which is mainly based in Australia with offices in the UK

Its moden logo is http://www.phoenixoilandgas.com.au/

What it was in WWII I do not know

You wouldnt think so exept that insurance assessors were employed by the government to assess bomb damage after the Blitz , so I would not discount them . There was a British insurance agency called the Phoenix ( for obvious reasons ) . I just cant prove it was them.

Smile Phoenix Insurance

The company took over the Royal and Sun Alliance Group at the end of 2006, so they are still in existence, maybe if you contacted the company they could tell you if it was their badge.

In the past whilst researching badges I have been pleasantly surprised by the reaction of an organisation which have been incredibly helpful in putting the record straight, if it is blitz damage assessment there is every chance they will have records somewhere in the archives.

I think it must be a WW2 Phoenix Assurance assessors badge . Trawling the net I found an early 19th century Phoenix Fire Insurance plaque which is incredibly similar to my badge and also saw on Sally Bosleys badge website an identical badge which she describes as a WW2 Phoenix Assurance On War Service badge. I attach pics of each.
