Found this on an Australian site :

Quote:
Wonderful Indian Sikh Mysore Regimental headdress badge - A battalion provided by the principality of Mysore in India as Imperial service troops. A rare and interesting badge. I have photo (second last) of the Sikhs at Gallipoli, one of whom gave up his badge for my Pa. On the back of the photo he says "Indians, good chaps, good with the mules, and did a mighty fine fighting job."
Also this :

Role in 1st World War:
Similarly the Mysore Transport Corps did much useful work in Mesopotamia.

Raised in 1901 as the Independent Pony Corps, in 1910 it had converted to a Bullock Corps and by 1916 had 320 carts, 704 bullocks, 40 ponies and 429 men. It was mobilized for active service in Sept 1916 when six troops moved to Mesopotamia for employment on the line of communication between Qurnah and Ali Gharbi. The unit was also employed for battlefield clearance at Kut,Shumran,Siwn,Sannaiyar and the Hai, the last two in particular earning the unit praise from the GOC. All information from"The Maharajas' Paltans".
