Interesting clearly same tooling being used to punch holes/void.
What year did Firmin buy out Gaunt? Was in the 1990s I think which ties in with Chris’ date for the badge. |

Yes Chris, I saw they were different badges, it was the gaping holes through the necks of them both that I found strange.

Its the real deal.
Attached is a pic of the same badge issued in the mid 90s to former colleague who was a Duke... |

Thanks Royal. It appears to be the Firmin made badge as opposed to the Gaunt.
Despite QC era badges not really being my thing I’ve really grown to like this one. It’s been a thoroughly interesting thread from discovering the NSN no, that officer’s wore slidered badges and that presumably Gaunt and Firmin shared tooling mid 1990s around the merger. Now the cherry on top being the badge in question appearing on a cap with provenance. All really great. Big thanks to everyone who’s contributed. |

Just to add to the mix, here is one I have.
Lovely silver/gilt from the front. Drilled hole between head and neck like the others. But to the rear, loops (one missing) and the Gilt scroll appears riveted on. Anyone know anything about this one? regards

Simon
I can confirm that yours is NOT an officers badge , despite it having the appearance of such. It is in fact a PRI supplied badge, the rivets on the lower scroll are the giveaway . These are still available from the Bankfield Museum in Halifax (which also houses the Dukes regimental museum). The officers badges (to the best of my knowledge), uniquely for officers badges, all have slider fittings. |
