Default Unofficial Shoulder Title

I first saw this shoulder title in Cossum's Australian Army Badges (1900-1930) page 55.

I've since found a few examples in a couple of sizes.

I believed they were likely to have been Egyptian made, however .....

I've since found more titles, this time a New Zealand and Canada, which has me thinking maybe not Egyptian make. Has anyone got any others?

Does anyone know anything about these?

Regards,

Dan

They were Egypt made. There is also a South Africa example. I believe they were souvenirs and not officially worn.

Default Unofficial titles

I had a PALESTINE some time ago in exactly the same format.

Milmed, I don't doubt at all that they weren't 'officially worn' however the configuration of the lugs on the rear is surely to allow them to be worn on the epaulette as an alternative to the standard issue.

adb63, PALESTINE, do you know who would have worn these? Do you think it's WW1 period?

Do we know that these titles are definitely WW1 or could they possibly be WW2?

South Africa ones are all WWII, so I suspect the others are also WWII. I agree maybe someone may have worn then unofficially, but it is my understanding from some old collectors that collected badges post WWII that these were Egypt bazaar made badges. A little home industry turning out items for purchase by foreign troops.

Were there Canadians in Egypt during WW2?
