Insignia
Hello,
Would someone please be kind enough to identify the insignia - which I assume is military - on this wall plaque? Thanks! |

No, its not military, its just some family coat of arms.

Thanks for letting me know - concise and to the point. I bought it with a wall plaque for Harrow School and a cloth patch for the Long Range Desert Group from a house clearance so a bit of a strange trio. Never realised that anyone would go to the trouble of producing a family crest plaque.

It does not resemble any military insignia I'm familiar with! You'll probably need to visit a heraldry site?

Hello
Welcome to the Forum! It's what is generally known as an heraldic shield or plaque. As has already been mentioned above, it is a family coat of arms and definitely not military. More often than not, the scroll at the bottom would have the family motto or even the family surname. Pity it's blank, obviously that makes identification more difficult. David. |

To see just how difficult it would be to identify the family have a look here:

Surprised no one has asked you about the LRDG patch. Could you post a pic of that? For educational purposes...

Thank you for all the replies. Always a bit daunting as the noob so the advice and guidance has been very welcome, even a certain terse one liner!
Sadly no identifying marks on back or front of the plaque so I'll admit defeat. I put the LRDG patch up for auction on a well known four letter international site yesterday, dobw, so feel free to research it! |
