RAF- Arabic origin insignia
Please can anyone help identify the insignia in the attached photo?
It all came together and appears to be handmade of poor quality silver. 1) RAF tie pin marked 'silver'. 2) Crossed arabic daggers with single 'stump' of a fittings. Head-dress badge? 3) Pair of single arab daggers.Unfortunately the brooch pin fittings are missing. Collar dogs? 4) Pair of possible cuff-links featuring the arabic dagger and RAF King's Crown wings. 5) Pair of possible cuff-links featuring he same dagger but with letters 'GAB' on the other end. Owner's personal civvy use? Were these the personal badges of an officer posted to the middle east between the wars? Many thanks, Badjez. |

Ref Crossed Khunjars
I was in Oman for a few years (1983-6) up near Maam camp (Seeb) and had frequent dealings with the military people. The knives in the pictures are part of the Omani national emblem - however, they are used in many other ME areas as well - I was also in Saudi working the RSAF (78-80) for a while - they also used the knives - but not quite the way displayed.
The RAF were also down in Salalah for some years and this type may have been used down there. I cannot recall seeing any badges quite like the ones you have shown being worn in Oman. Certainly, the RAF were in Iraq during (and possibly after) WWII - maybe they are from this era - the KC crown points to that. Whether this helps you or not, I don't know. Good luck. david |

Not really, These would have been trinkets for British RAF personnel posted to Iraq. Regarding the Levies, though RAF they where a Parachute Regiment and did not wear standard RAF insignia. The RAF levies wore the following:
