Default New Zealand Artillery

I have been told these are both badges worn by the New Zealand Artillery, period unknown,

Can anyone confirm please and suggest a good book on similar NZ cloth badges?

Thanks,

Jon

"New Zealand Army Distinguishing Patches 1911-1991" by Malcolm Thomas and Cliff Lord, Part One, pub. 1995, is the recommended book to have. (Part Two covers Corps and Regimental Distinctions.)

Cliff is a member of this forum and will no doubt confirm your patches.

Cheers, Tinto

The left one is a WW2 NZ (fisrt type) Artillery HQ patch, the right is a WW2 (fisrt type) Artillery 33rd Battery 7th Anti-Tank Regt patch.

The others have given you the correct information, but have scanned the relevant page for you. The two books are hard to find now as only 500 copies were printed.
All the best,
Cliff Lord

Do you think there would be sufficient interest leading to sales for a reprint of these reference books to be considered, Cliff?

Regards
Bruce

The STAR badge could also be HQ Divisional Ordnance.
This badge had the vertical seam whereas the Artillery HQ badges (5,6,7 Regts.) had a horizontal seam to divide the blue and red fields.

In addition to Barry's comment, if worn by HQ Div Ord the Blue would have been worn with the colours arranged as per this example of a later ordnance patch .

Hi Bruce,
Only just seen this one from you. While I do not know if there is a market for a reprint I had thought seriously about a second edition. Last year I ran it past Malcom Thomas but he was not keen on the idea. Only 500 copies were made of each volume so I expect there are not a lot of second hand copies for sale. We did not expect the books to be in demand nearly 25 years later. An updated version in colour would be great, but would require a huge amount of work. I am currently donkey deep in a third edition of my Aden Book but this time in the format of the Middle East at War series by Helion and vol 4 in the same series for Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar.

Hello Cliff.
Many thanks for your response.
It may be that time has moved on now and with future publishing projects under way, and with only twenty four hours in a day and no with prospect of wringing out any more your time is fully committed.
During my search on-line for a copy to buy, it appeared that the National Library has a copy to reference and a short train ride could have me there in minutes.
So all is not lost and a copy is bound to show up somewhere at sometime and I'll be waiting to pounce.

All the best for the success of your current projects.
Kind regards
Bruce.
