Band of the Royal Armoured Corps
I’m carrying out some research into the history of cavalry bands from options in the 1990s and have some badges of the bands that followed. Does anyone know if the RAC band had a unique badge or is it a standard one?
Thanks for your help. Regards Ian |

I was under the impression they wore the RAC mailed fist before CAMUS merged them all to a single cap badge.

Thanks all,
So from what I can gather the Band of the Royal Armoured Corps were formed in 2014 and wore the chain mailed fist. They were formed from an amalgamation of the Heavy Cavalry and Cambrai Band and the Light Cavalry Band under the restructuring of Army Music. The Heavy Cavalry and Cambrai Band were formed in 2006 (I believe) from an amalgamation of The Band of The Dragoon Guards and The Royal Tank Regiment Cambrai Band. The Light Cavalry Band was also formed in 2006 from an amalgamation of The Royal Lancers Band and The Band of the Hussars and Light Dragoons. I also believe prior to 2006 the cavalry bands wore the badge of the Regiment even though they had reduced in number following options for change in 1994. More than happy to be corrected on any of the above? Thanks Ian |

Thanks Mike and I presume this Cambrai band wore the RTR badge.

I carried out a bit more research into the RTR current band, friend of a friend was discussing the current position of the pipes and drums today with the pipe major. They have glengarry badges and they have the die for the badge. They priced the badges in UK and have actually placed an order in USA, both solid silver and white metal. I have even been offered one to buy at cost!
This raises a number of questions around the amalgamations of bands! |
