Here is a clearer shot showing the difference in the gaps between the two badges.

Using an earlier post from Chrisr I picked this adge up as a Royal 1rst Devonshire Yeomanry. There was no info on regarding the reverse and mine is lugged. Hoping this is a cap and not a collar.
![]() although it looks like there may e a space on the inside leg there isn't.It's solid. ![]() Last edited by Alan O; 13-02-23 at 02:43 PM. |

It looks good to me Jim.
Mine has blades rather than lugs; its dimensions are 4cm from the top of the crown on lion's head to the base of the large crown and 2.5cm across the widest part of the crown. Cheers Chris |

Hi All, Can anyone date this badge for me, it came with a job lot of collar badges but can't find it in any of the books, any help appreciated. It has one lug left at the top, with the remnants of some sort of lead replacement at the bottom !! Thanks, Wilf.

It is thought to be General Staff with the gap between the leg. The RDY supposedly has no void between the more forward extended rear leg and the cross at the top of the crown.
Doubt this is a hard and fast rule however. Usually staff officers badges were embroidered. CB |

Hi Malc,
I would agree with CB. I'd be surprised if the badge for sale in your link is for the Royal Devon Yeomanry Hussars. Here is mine for comparison. Cheers, Tinto |

Hi Malc
Geoff Newman has a Gilt Staff Officers badge on his website that looks exactly like yours, see here http://www.gnmilitaria.co.uk/shop/vi...h=12058&phqu=2

This photo is a good reference. Note the voided crown.

I understand now, thanks for re-posting this thread. 3 voids as opposed to 2.

Mid WW1 - the trench cap was introduced in 1915 I believe. I am no hat expert so please correct me if this is wrong.
