Default Suggestions on the Best Royal Flying Corps RFC Reference Book

Looking for suggestions on the best reference book for identifying and authenticating Royal Flying Corps Badges and Insignia.
Is the book "Badges and Uniforms of the Royal Air Force" by Malcolm C. Hobart a good one or is there something even better?
Thanks

Default RFC badges

Hello Shockwave,

Whilst Hobart’s book is a useful general publication to have in your library, it has limited use as a reference source for identifying genuine RFC insignia. There’s nothing really out there falls into that category that I’m aware of.

Specifically for RFC wings, Warren Carroll’s publication “Eagles Recalled” is well worth the expense, particularly when you look at it from the perspective of as a percentage of the value of buying a collection of RFC wings.

Member Dave Parsons who passed away a year ago produced a PDF file which he made available to the forum. Excellent work. Regards, Paul.

I’m sure you will be rewarded by the investment in “Eagles Recalled”

It’s a great pity that Warren Carroll’s next book venture seems to be have been lost, it was expected cover early British and Commonwealth aviation related insignia, not just wings.

I am saddened to hear about Dave Parson and his passing.
I was one of the benefactors who received his material and am happy to pass it on as I am sure he would approve.

Hi Barry. I am new to the forum but Dave sounds like someone who had a great deal of knowledge to share. I would be grateful for any material relating to RFC badges, buttons and insignia. Thanks, Ron

Hello Paul, I’d forgotten that Dave Parsons excellent pdf “Badges and Emblems of the Royal Air Force” did in fact include sections covering both the RFC and RNAS.

Some of Dave’s wonderful work is still accessible through this forum

I am familiar with Dave Parsons book and it is a tremendous resource. I will also recommend Warren Carrol's "Eagles Recalled" as it too is a wealth of information. A couple of wings that I had when I was collecting RFC/RAF badges and wings are in it. here's one source, but I am sure there are others.

Hi Shockwave,

Flight Badges of the Allied Nations 1914-1918 Volume II by Robert S Pandis is another great book on WW1 wings well worth adding to the library. He has a few in the set & depending on your collecting interest, you may want them all?

Best regards,
David
