post WW2 battle dress - help for cloth badges
Hi,
I have this post WW2 battle dress, made in Hong Kong, for a Rifles Brigade Lt (unfortunately no date or name). Two different formation badges or cloth titles have been unstitched on both sleeves, we can see the ghost of their stitching. Is there any one who have a clue about what has been stitched here ? Right shoulder looks like the ghost stitching from parachute wings?

Oddly, the collar appears to have grommet holes for collar badges, but the RB did not wear any.
I does look like there may possibly have been Para wings on that shoulder. CB

I think that battledress has been partially made up at least. The medal ribbons are wrong. The last ribbon is the 'Territorial Force Efficiency Medal' which was replaced by the 'Territorial Efficiency Medal' in 1921, so doesn't make sense.

The ribbon of the Korea Medal should be with the UN Korea Medal ribbon. I think there's a rabbit off.

The ribbons are perfectly all right. It is an Efficiency Decoration (post-nominals TD), not an Efficiency Medal, which by this time was narrower and had thin yellow edges, not a yellow centre stripe.
The UN Korea was awarded singly if you served in Japan or after the ceasefire in 1953, so nothing wrong there, either. |

It was possible to get the UN Korea without qualifying for the British Korea as the UN Korea continued to be awarded for service after the British one had stopped, but I agree that the rabbits up and running.
Did the Rifle Brigade serve in Korea? |

No, but the Royal Ulster Rifles did - and he might have been sent to them as an additional reinforcement (like members of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment were sent to the Royal Leicesters). My father, a Class Z officer in the Royal Warwicks and one of the last out of Palestine, was concerned he'd be recalled. He wasn't.

No, the RB never served in the Korean War.

Thanks gentlemen for your much appreciated help. I'll try tomorrow to check if parachute wings fit to the ghost stitching on the right shoulder.
The left shoulder has square red ghost stitching, what could it be ? regards Normandie18 |

That's it : the parachute wings perfectly fit, thanks for your help :
The red ghost stitching on the left shoulder is 5cm X 3,5cm. And there are two grommets on each collar but the collar badges have no ghosting shape left... Regards Normandie18 |
