League of Mercy badge
The attached medal/badge, although not strictly military, would grace any uniform or medal collection. The POW plumes are articulated which allows the medal to be folded flat. This specimen is an original, dated 1898. I tend to think that the Order may have contributed to charitable work during the Boer War and the Great War but haven't confirmed this yet.

Order Of Mercy
"The original badge of the order, awarded from 1899, was a red enamelled silver or silver gilt cross surmounted by the plumes of the Prince of Wales and with a central roundel bearing the crest of the League. The reverse is plain, save for the inscription “League of Mercy 1898” on the central roundel." Awarded 1899-1946 League of Mercy .

Thankyou both for contributions. Have since found a splendid Boer War grouping online, just as I had thought. Pleasantly surprised to see the LS clasp on the League's ribbon
