Here is my selection of SAMC WWI titles including a very nice No 1 Medical Company (Cape) title. This was the old B Company of the Cape Medical Corps based in Cape Town. The title dates to c.1913. This later became 3 Field Ambulance (Cape Town).

Another 4 from my small collection.

The CC is broken and repaired using cotton...suspect by the soldier, left it as such.

Hi Brian,
Nice selection. I am still looking for that SAEC title you show. George had some nice WWI engineering badges, but they did not make it to the auction, somehow disappearing on the way from the family to Sotheby's and Kaplans. Really upset me the way quite a large part of the collection 'vanished' when passed through certain hands!

The CC title is a good one and not easy to find. Most of the 'Cape Corps' titles in the market are in fact WWII brass copies of WWI badges. This includes cap and collar badges. Here is my collection of WWI Cape coloured regimental badges.

Here are some additonal Cape Corps titles, not in my collection and not my pictures, so will remove if anyone takes offence.

1. Cape Corps officers title as worn on khaki drill jacket. Probably UK manufactured.

2. 2nd Cape Corps sheet title with brass wire loop lugs - GEA use

Steven,

Some very rare badges that you have.

The Cape Auxiliary Horse collar badges and buttons are extremely rare and I was fortunate to find a pair many years ago in an old 'Smuts' tin that was given to me.

Regards,

Will

Hi Will,
Dont you mean 'Cape Coloured Labour Regiment' collars and Buttons? I have a button but have not found collars yet. These were of course only worn by the European officers.

If on the other hand your refer to Cape Auxiliary Horse collars and buttons, I would love to see images of these, as I was unaware these existed.

What we do need to add to this thread are clear contempory pictures of the titles been worn. This would make an ausome display (picture and accompaning badges) and even better would be a publication of SA WWI insignia.

Hi Steve,

Sorry. meant the Labour Regiment.

I will start working through my postcard and photo collection and I will see what I can find that is appropriate.

I have been considering a WW1 publication but the usual excuse regarding time is what I always refer too.

I will post some more titles in a few minutes.

Regards,

Will

If you do get time for a publication, I am sure we would all be happy to contribute images and knowledge towards it.

One of the forum members Alex just recently produced an excellent reference for the SA Navy insignia. Very nice layout and good balance between images and text. I was very happy to add his publication to my library.
