Unknown Union Flag/Union Jack Cloth Patch

Does anyone have any ideas what this Union Flag/Union Jack cloth patch is (or even if it is military) ? It measures 60mm x 40mm and has been machine sewn onto something at some time. I acquired it with the two rank sliders in the picture (these bear Major's rank insignia with the light blue Parachute Regiment colour - evidently they were worn by a financially "careful" officer who wore them as a Captain, on promotion removed the ranks stars , turned them over (and despite the seam) attached Major's insignia !
