Default Pewter Button "SUSSEX".

Another pewter button I'm trying to identify, it measures 1" / 25 mm across.
Can anyone ID it please?

Leigh,

Although this one has a bone back it appears to be of a similar pattern to yours.

There is a line drawing of the button in post 1 in English Infantry Militia Buttons 1775-1881 by Ripley & Darmanin. It's described as Sussex Militia [1778], pewter, flat, design in relief.

Thanks for that, similar indeed, although bone backed and of smaller diameter.

Hi Leigh,

First pattern, Sussex Militia.

I won the one on Ebay pictured, but the seller then renaged and offered it to the under bidder. If you want to sell your one at any point, I’d be interested.

Kind Regards,

Pete

Thanks for the info and thanks for the offer, but I have my usual death grip on the button.

what explanation did they give you to sell it to the underbidder? I hope you left negative feedback sounds terrible.
