Yellow brass
I've seen a awful lot of shiny yellow brass cap badges on ebay these days & they are mostly the common type , Right now they are coming out of Richmond Hill, all are buy it now which usually mean they have more than one,& right now all from the same seller, but I have seen them elsewhere as well. Any comments on these in general.Any comments from sellers to remove any doubts etc. Ray

If you mean things like the 8th PLNBH, RCDs, Westminsters, Saguenays, West Novas, etc., these are all good badges, and all in unissued condition. Just a whole heck of a lot of 'em in existence. At the Calgary Easter gun show, I used to see heaps of RCAMC, Hull, Ontario & Montreal Regiment badges as well at $5-$10 a throw. There was a forum thread on these awhile ago (but I'm too lazy to go search for it) with the postulated 'barrels of surplus badges' walking away from destruction and into basements and garages, etc., explanations as to their origins.
An aside; one thing I do note when seeing them is the amount of flux spotting and blackening they tend to suffer from. If you see a back side view of one, you'll see what I mean. Must have been some high-test acid flux the manufacturer used for these. Last edited by DavidS; 28-01-09 at 04:52 AM. Reason: because I type with my thumbs |

I am uncertain of what badges we are talking about, but I agree with DavidS. The above mentioned badges are very very common. I see at the shows by the bags full. $5.00 to 10.00 seems about what I recall as the price range.

Hi Ray, here are two post from John Cameron and Wyn van der Schee on the subject that will shed some light on your concerns.

In addition to the discussion already posted about these badges, there is another point. The comments by DavidS about the "blackening" on the solder spots is also a good thing. (I hate Martha Stewart)... But the corrosion takes time to develop, and that means the badges are older, not new knock offs.

All the above is just what I wanted to hear, as David said there are tons of these badges out there & just like the day they were made, amazing how they can keep their new appearance, & yes in a lot of cases the black spot is there. They looked good to me, I was just wondering where they were coming from, is it a new stash uncovered? They are certainly not dug up like some I have seen, remember the New Brunswick Scottish that began to appear years ago , & it does look like there are barrels of these new ones out there. Now to sum up, I wasn't concerned about them not being the real thing but where have they been until now. Thanks fellows. Ray
