Real Vs Rotten Tutorial #3 First Hussars Canada
Attached is an example of a bogus First Hussars embroidered title. This example is red embroidered on felt. Not all felt titles are bogus, as starch backs were made on felt. As well, some early Canadian made titles were also made on felt, as were early Canadian Army Cadet titles. However, this title has a glued on backing, which is a clue that should raise suspicions.(Note that hiding the construction on the back of a title is a common practice, BUT not all covered titles are bad.) In this case the glued backing was peeled back a bit to reveal a fluffy cotton stiffener. This is a modern embroidery technique and is not typical of wartime era titles. The quality of embroidery is good on this title, but the title does not conform to the standard regimental 3 colour pattern, red embroidery on gray on dark blue material. (See third image.) It appears to be a copy of the printed title. These have been suggested to be a title made for a reunion.
