Default Is this 8th recce badge legitimate, fake, or reissue or....????

I inherited 2 8th Recce badges. One is the authentic bimetal one with the gold parts attached to the silver part by 2 bent "hooks."
The other has more gold area on the front, and from the back you can see the stamping. I am attaching VIII Recce 2nd badge.01 (640x479) (300x225).jpg

VIII Recce 2nd Badge.02 (640x479) (300x225).jpgpix of the front and back of the suspect one. Can anybody tell me what it is?

I have not seen one like that, hard to tell when its not in your hand but I would say very suspect to be a pretty good repro. Cheers Brian

Is the gold (brass) an overlay piece? Haven't seen one without the voiding in the overlay, but then again, as per other threads, there seems to have been a large number of private purchase badges from different sources. You say you inherited it. Was the originator a veteran with the 8th Recce? If so, I wouldn't dismiss the badge. The Scully reunion badge was flat backed & marked Scully. Most repros I've seen are of that reunion badge and don't have this quality.

Yes, the gold piece IS an overlay piece. I'm not sure how it is attached to the larger silver piece, but it is definitely not "pinned" on like the authentic ones I have seen.
No 8th Recce family members: I inherited a quantity of WW1 & WW2 badges from my late aunt, who served in the Women's Royal Canadian Navy Service during WW2. She must have got the WW2 items from soldiers and sailors she met during and after the war. So I have no history. It is not a Scully repro.
You're right about the quality. I have had these badges for some time now and only noticed the difference a week or so ago. Still a mystery!

This is a badge I would want to have in hand before committing one way or the other. However since that is not an option. I see no tell tale signs of the usual fakes or reproductions.

As mentioned, I am curious as to the lack of the usual 'voiding', and usually the overlay is pinned with wire coming though the badge backing. If it were mine, I would be happy with it. If this is in fact a reproduction, it is one of the best I have seen to date.
