Ian,
Sometimes I feel like W.C. Fields when he was asked if he didn't know that the game was dishonest. "Yes," he replied, "but it's the only game in town." I'll have to get the Internet to my cell phone so I have it, the forum that is, at shows. My sleeve with my ace, as it were. A question for any experts reading this, was the Manchester badge ever done in blackened brass? The actual badge is darker than this picture shows and has lugs. Opinions appreciated. Don

I have a two piece all brass badge obtained from someone I was led believe was a 'Manchesters' expert, this has the slider stamped JR Gaunt London.
I will post photos front and rear when light improves. |

I'd very suspicious of that one, although I cannot prove when Gaunt started marking sliders of ORs badges, all the genuine ones I have/have seen tend to be WW2 era and later. Since the Manchester coat of arms was dropped in 1920 that would start alarm bells ringing with me!

Here are photos of the all brass 1916 'economy' issue badges I purchased from a Manchester Regiment 'expert' as genuine.

Sorry but I have never seen a badge made before 1950 with that mark on its slider. It has never been seen on any genuine WW1 badge that I know of. Gaunts themselves did not mark economy badges.
