Stupid here can never find the albums on the forum - can you send a link? I have a one piece RE badge and this is documented as an experimental type in some documents somewhere which I have written up - sorry, no notes to hand. I think these may have been cold welded (what???) using General Electrics procedure with Gaunt to join slider to body but this did not work too well and was soon superseded by other methods. Can you send image - I have been told that some one piece items were issued out but don't really know if they were a large batch of experimental items or post experiment. Regards Chris |

I'll post you scans of mine in 10 hours time and you can reconcile against yours. Mine does look good but no maker marks which is a shame. Regards Chris |

Chris,
I'm not looking for one, I have a spare "Firmin London" for sale, but I think £5 is well off the mark! I'd rather keep hold! I've attached some one-piece images for reference, the ALL gold rear is unusual! Andy |

Don't worry about the rear colour of the badge as this just shows the order of dying carried out by the "stopping off" worker with the rear of the badge showing the last colour that the badge was dyed in. Can you look under the slider where it attaches to the badge body - there should be a small supporting 'strut' attached to the badge body running from the bend of the slider to the bottom of the badge but is only about 3mm long. I think this may have something to do with cold welding the slider to the body but am not sure. Regards Chris |

Chris,
no visible strut on RE badge? Will send close up of joint by light of day! Still think Shottons ano OX & Bucks LI badge is a bargain at £6 if it is genuine? Andy |

Mine is the same as this and it does show signs of brazing/soldering/etc. material. I was hoping that it was an experimental item for cold forging but looks like I'll have to keep looking. Regards Chris |

Hi gents,
Mine does have the support strut mentioned, no makers mark but does show signs of having been worn. I'll post pics this evening. Regards Ry |

Here is an image of my 'strut' which is directly below the bend of the slider where it seems to have been deliberately made to help position it. I was thinking that the slider and badge had been cold welded and that this strut was used to help keep the parts together but notice the dark solder/braze type material the area where the slider attaches to the badge body. I believe that these RE badges are good but have no idea who made them as I have been unable to reconcile the slider with known makers. This one part badge of mine seems to have had a hard life with cracked anodic crust and plenty of scratches and scuffs. Point - can you check the reverse side of you slider to see if it is marked there. It may have been punched with a makers mark, bent the wrong way and then added to the badge body so hiding the mark from obvious view. This does happen and proves that sliders were added before anodising and colour dying. Regards Chris |

The Band of the Light Division (the amalgamated LI and RGJ bands) from about 1994 to 2007 reverted to wearing the Ox&Bucks LI cap badge. Perhaps anodised versions were made or used first, then a change to "new metal"? Here is one in "new metal" on 54Bty album http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...pictureid=5721
