South Irish Horse badge on lugs
I have two different types of South Irish Horse badges on lugs in my collection. One is the standard die cast, hollow reverse, with smooth stalk which is indicative of a good badge. The other, which also has a smooth stalk is solid on the reverse, and perhaps cast. I was wondering whether this might be an officer's cap badge, as they are also purported to be on lugs. I know information on the SIH is relatively scarce, but is there any consensus among collectors on how to distinguish between collar badges and officer's badges?

I saw that on eBay. Indeed an officers badge, either gilt cap/collar or OSD collar which has lost its finish. The OSD cap badges had blades. From the reverse I’d say the latter of the two options.
My gilt cap/collar is here https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...9&postcount=23 |

Thanks Luke. It's very similar to your badge on the green felt backing. It's definitely brass,
rather than bronze, so it has most likely lost it's gilt. That Smith & Wright badge on the slider is a lovely example! If you ever decided to downsize, I'm open to donations ha
