Colour Sgt Crown vs. Major's Crown
I am also being offered a crown badge, which I need for my ATS collection. So I can know what I'm getting, is there a difference between the crown worn by a colour sergeant on his sleeve, and the crown worn by a Major?
It is my understanding that the ATS wore a crown of the colour sergeant above he left breast pocket. Thank you, Terry |

Terry,
Generally, and there are always exceptions, a colour/staff sergeants crown in brass/gilding metal would be about 20% larger than a major’s rank crown. Tim

Both size Gilding Metal crowns were worn simultaneously by Warrant Officers on their lower sleeve without any regulation especially in WW1.
As for Colour Sergeants and Staff Sergeants etc they wore the smaller size. These rules only apply for metal, cloth is even more mixed up. regards

A Major's crown would usually be gilt with a red cloth cushion, a Colour Sgt's crown would be brass (technically gilding metal).

Thank you all for the additional great info. Two have been offered, but I am not sure of their sizes yet. At east have something to go on now.

A few plain brass/gilding metal officer’s crowns with matching pips amongst this lot. All less than one inch wide.
