Default Inniskilling Dragoons 1887

Hi Ian

Congratulations on joining the 1887 club 😀

Sgt James badge was previously unknown to this thread and is the thirteenth badge to be reported.

Attached is the badge to Sgt Byrne which I purchased a few years ago and forgot to add to the thread.

This will make fourteen known examples.

Bob.

Thanks Bob

It was your thread that set me on the path to getting one. I would love to know more about the person engraved?

Default Arm badge.

Afternoon all.

Just looking through R.G.Harris book on The Irish Regiments and on page 58 is a image of badge being worn by recruiting sergeant McGinley in 1875 taken outside a pub in Westminster.

Maybe off topic to the feed and you may all know about the book/image but thought may be of help.

Ta

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan

Yes that's a great photo.
I purchased this book when it was first published all those years ago! 😀
It's a fantastic source of information for anyone interested in the Irish Regiments and I would recommend it to Forum members.
Anyone interested in more information about the 1887 Arm Badge should grab a copy of Cavalry Warrant Officers and NCOs Arm Badges by David Linaker & Gordon Dine or Arm Badges of the British Cavalry Regiments by Peter Seaman. Both are excellent books!!

6th Dragoons, Victorian/Edwardian (sadly broken) but you can see Door Arch looks pointed and brickwork similar to the 1st all w/m badge in post # also another badge from a frame, have pictured from above to show curviture off badge, you can see why there are so many Wonky Turrets, or in the case of Victorian/Edwardian badge -damaged! It too has the appearance of the pointy arch and within the curved doorway!

Here are the two 5th Lancers (not in the best condition) w/m version being a copy the 2nd being restored (not the best repair at that, lastly a good 5th Lancers (I hope!) and am not going to attempt restraightening the Lancers!

All the best billy

Hi All
Reviving this old post... Does anyone perhaps have a roll of the NCOs during this period? I am trying to identify someone with the initials AJH and another with the initials JS. They come off an item from this period and it is engraved from AJH to JS. I believe they are probably both senior NCOs from the Inniskilling Dragoons. If I get any info I may be able to elaborate further but at the moment, it is for a collector friend, not something I own.
Thanks. Cheers,
Alex
