Cold War - French GB Sector badge for Berlin?

Hi all,

I recently acquired this badge which appears to be French. The 'Grande Bretagne' (GB) Sector does suggest it may be connected with the occupying Forces in Berlin.

Although the map design on the badge isn't brilliant it does seem the centre of the arrow star is located in Eastern Germany. It is 10cm tall and the construction of the badge would suggest it is for a blazer.

I cannot find anything that matches the acronym F.C.A.E.E in French.

Along with this badge came a British Berlin Brigade patch (also attached) that was used during the latter part of the Cold war.

Any thoughts in identifying this badge would be much appreciated.

Hi,
The acronym F.C.A.E.E in French is "Fédération des Combattants Alliés en Europe" or in english : Federation of Allied Combatants in Europe.

Found a photo of a miniature medal with a few more details :

The Federation was created in 1968 with the aim of ‘maintaining the camaraderie and friendly relationships which were formed in combat, between former allied combatants, resistance members and deportees’.

The Medal was awarded for services in furthering peace in Europe.

Now I know what the badge basic design represents, however still not certain what the wording Grande Bretagne Sector would signify being in French. (Great Britain Sector).

As the "Fédération des combattants alliés en Europe" was founded and based in France (but included members from other nationalities) , it is possible that members were from/served in the various sectors and I assume that they used French on all their documents/badges etc.

They produced a 'periodical' magazine (in French) and their medal award certificates were also in French.

Veteran's Associations based in Britain would use English on their documents/badges etc , so it may simply be that no matter which nationality or sector the Federation member was from French was the "preferred" language used .
