Measures about 44mm tall, of blackened yellow metal, has the Ladysmith scrolls, unvoided, the slider is carefully made from rolled & flattened very thin brass sheet, no signs of any other fixing unless it's obscured by the slider.
Converted from a non-cap badge insignia, possibly officers? |

Another Tel-El-Kebir
Did anyone else spot this one that went tonight?
I didn't land it but it was a close run thing. Someone has a bargain. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=280646882443 Regards Ry |

Yes, I tried for it but got pipped at the post. I saw the honors when it was first posted. When I got the rear shot I waited to bid, but missed it a couple of pounds.

Don't suppose you managed to acquire the dimensions along with the back view? PJ |

Nah, sorry PJ. I would have been happy with any size. I was after the honors. Here's the pic of the back.

Hi Team, I opened a thread on this but got no response. So I thought I try on this one. What's the teams take on this one. It looks like the left lug was replaced at some time.

Hi Simon, it's hard to tell from these pictures - all the relief seems to be on the back. I would have expected to see more relief in the battle honours on the front that what there is here. It looks a bit flat. Can you try a raking light shot? Cheers, David

I don't know David if these are better pictures to let know any opinions on this one. But in cleaning the pieces of the verdigris, it looks like the left lug was replaced.

Alex. I don't want to state the obvious, but if this badge was a repro of a supposedly rare badge, then it would be plastered all over eBay like a rash. You can generally tell when a unusual fake badge becomes available by that very same conduit. I still stand by it as an original, going by what I hold in my hand. Cheers. Alan |

Simon, in these pictures the relief looks better, so I'm inclined to think that it might be OK, but don't just take my word for it. David

Not having the badge means I can't judge it, but I was merely posing a question. Sliders were only introduced c.1906 by which stage the badge with the 'Ladysmith' honour was in use which is why it seemed strange to me, unless it was indeed a pagri badge. Cheers, Alex |
