Question War Raised Cavalry

I picked up a number of War Raised Cavalry badges - only a couple are ok and even then not that sure even with Peter Seaman's book in front of me. So happy to have second opinions on these please.

First three are 24th Lancers -

Fig 31 - Officers No. 1 Dress gilt and enamel cap badge - copy as should be flat backed.

Fig 36 - Officers Service Dress bronze collar - genuine - voided letters and lugged east-west.

Fig 38 - Officers WM collar - genuine ?

22nd Dragoons -

Fig 3 - WM Other Ranks cap badge - flat backed - die stamped are genuine but looks ok good ?

23rd Hussars -

Fig 20 & 21 - Other Ranks cap badge - unmarked slider and brazing holes - copy as genuine with marked slider?

25th Dragoons -

Fig 53 - Officers Service Dress collar - genuine lugged east-west.

How did I go? cheers Dean.

Dean,
I don't like your 24th Lancers "officers" one. The one I have is
silvered, your's looks more like WM. Its also in the BABF cavalry
projects album.
The rear is also wrong - there is hardly any dimpling on the rear.
I won't post a pic of the rear of mine - it only helps the forgers.
If you email me, I'll send you a pic of the back of mine and it is
a) exactly as described in Peters book and b) the pic is a better
"description" than using words. A pic of the front is in my WRU
album.
You are right about the 24th S/G/E one, the enamelling won't last
5 minutes if its been die-struck, it should be cast and is a much more
solid badge.
David

Dean,
As you rightly say and David points out the gilt and enamelled officers badge is an example of the later copy!

I will pass on the collars but your other cap badges look fine, even the unmarked 23H, they weren't all MM'ed.

Dean,
is the lugged 24L Wm badge, cap badge size? If so it is a lugged cap badge and not a collar!

The shame , the shame - Andy you are quite right here am I prattling on about collars and my WM badge is the same size as a cap badge and hadn't yet looked at the size difference that was staring me in the face in the book !!! All three are the same size copy enamel, OSD and WM all are cap badge size. Collars are 3/4 the size - schoolboy error.

Ok so were there lugged cap badges ? OSD would have been with blades.

Cheers Dean

It may be the picture but it looks like the Gilt and Wm 24l badges come from the same die set to me.

Gentlemen,

Regarding the 22D "flat-back" badge is this not an officers' or SNCOs badge? I have two of these: a silver plate example and sterling silver one, too; both are Firmin made. Plus, I also own two lugged OSD examples portrayed in Peter's book - one is Gaunt made and the other Firmin.

In addition, I've read that there existed - concerning the 22D - a OSD badge with a slider also, I don't own one of those, but I do have a silvered example on a slider that is a flat-back.

Kind regards,

Marcus

Hi Dean

Bring them down next time you come.

The XX11 in the 22nd has to be voided, not solid. I have one of each.

Regards

Phil.
